System Shock and its sequel remain major entries in the immersive sim genre to this day, so hopefully efforts to bring it forward pan out. Vaxquis remade those ambients, fixing the gain factors, for everybody to have a playing experience most consistent with original one - and with developer's intentions too - as far as my e-mail correspondence with Robotkid and analysis of the samples. Now, looking ahead to 2022, it’ll be interesting to see how Nightdive’s version of the 1994 classic holds up. Even looking back a few years, the remake was looking impressive. Nightdive also says that System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition is coming along, and the goal is still to launch it in the same window as the System Shock remake. As a personal project, I've started porting System Shock 2 to Unreal Engine 5. In 2012, Night Dive Studios acquired the rights to System Shock 2 and produced an updated version for digital distribution.
